Aims and Objectives
Access to information services in the field of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases are of vital importance to clinicians, students and researchers alike. Therefore IDI has established a library with the following goals and objectives:
Aim:
- To strengthen the Institute's information base on aspects of HIV/AIDS and related infectious diseases.
Objectives:
- To gather, organize and make accessible relevant and up to date information which will support the Institute's mission.
- To provide high quality information services and create a pleasant environment for studying
- To establish networks with other libraries offering related services
Who can access the library
The library can be accessed by the following:
- Staff at the Institute
- Trainees at the Institute
- Alumni of the Institute
- Staff and students of the Faculty of Medicine, Makerere University
- Staff of Mulago Hospital
- Staff and students of Makerere University Institute of Public Health
Library Services
Borrowing services
Eligible users are allowed to borrow library books for a period of one week.
Literature search services
The library offers literature search services to its users and assists them in finding resources to meet their information needs. Request for literature searches may be sent to the librarian via the following email:

Access to Newspapers
The library provides access to regular copies of the NewVision, Daily Monitor, The East African and the Weekly Observer newspapers. These newspapers are available for use within the library.
Computer & Internet Access
The library has computers dedicated to its users and the internet may be accessed by eligible users during opening hours.
Selective dissemination of information (SDI)
SDI is a current awareness service by which users are alerted to the latest material published in their respective field(s) of interest. Users who register with the library for this service will regularly receive information updates of new articles/papers published in their respective field(s) of interest. Whenever the medical/health databases are updated, we will send you a list of references by email.
Current awareness services
The library collects relevant news items from related organizations and institution websites as well as media houses. These news items are available through the Institute's intranet.
Inter Library loan services
In case a resource required by our users is not available in our library, we shall make efforts to obtain it from another library.
The library is in the process of establishing networks with related libraries in the country.
We shall also make resources from our collection available to other libraries.
